Perceivable:
The perceivable principle is the first principle and it states that the information on a user interface component must be presentable to users in such a way that they can perceive. The principle one gives more importance on the perceivable aspect of the presentation. This principle specifies four aspects: They are as follows:

Text Alternatives: Provide text alternatives for any non-text content so that it can be changed into other forms people need, such as large print, braille, speech, symbols or simpler language.

Time-based Media: Provide alternatives for time-based media.

Adaptable: Create content that can be presented in different ways (for example simpler layout) without losing information or structure.

Distinguishable: Make it easier for users to see and hear content including separating foreground from background.

Operable – User interface components and navigation must be operable.
The second principle is on the operable nature of the content. The operable principle speaks on four aspects. They are mentioned below.

Keyboard Accessible: Make all functionality available from a keyboard.

Enough Time: Provide users enough time to read and use content.

Seizures: Do not design content in a way that is known to cause seizures.

Navigable: Provide ways to help users navigate, find content, and determine where they are.

Understandable:
The Third principle speaks on the understandability of the content. It is stated that the Information and the operation of user interface must be understandable. The understandable principle speaks about three aspects.

Readable: Make text content readable and understandable.

Predictable: Make Web pages appear and operate in predictable ways.

Input Assistance: Help users avoid and correct mistakes.

Robust:
This is the fourth principle in the WCAG 2.0 recommendation. This principle states that the content must be robust enough that it can be interpreted reliably by a wide variety of user agents, including assistive technologies. The robust principle has only one aspect.

Compatible: Maximize compatibility with current and future user agents, including assistive technologies.

Developing the web contents so as to meet the guidelines specified in the WCAG2.0 makes the content accessible to more audience.

…more about WCAG.

If you are a developer, geek or IT guru then you should not face any issues reading and implementing the following steps. But if you are doing it for the first time or are just a wanna be cracker, then read these jargon before starting:

Firmware: It is the software / OS of your iPhone. This hack is for 2.2 version.

Jailbreak: It simply means that to enable your iPhone to be able to install third party applications. In laymans terms it makes your iPhone to install application which are not form the Application store.

Unlock: It means that your iPhone can accept SIM from any mobile provider.

PS: Please note, this hack will only work on iPhone 3G with firmware version 2.2. If you don’t have the latest firmware then upgrade it using iTunes. The catch with this hack is that you can only use one unlocked SIM card. In other words, if you ever want to use another SIM, you have to do the entire process again.

Upgrade your iTunes to 8.0.2 by launching it and clicking “Download iTunes” below. Or download it and install it manually.

Allow iTunes to upgrade your iPhone to the latest 2.2 firmware. Don’t worry about the implications (losing jailbreak, unlock) as QuickPwn will take care of this for your. This step is necessary because QuickPwn doesn’t actually upgrade your iPhone. Instead, QuickPwn expects to be pwning the same firmware that your iPhone is on. If you don’t know anything about baseband versions, you can ignore this message. Otherwise, make sure you’ve updated your iPhone to be running on 02.28.00 baseband firmware, which should have been included in the 2.2 firmware update.

Download QuickPwn 2.2 for Windows or Mac. Extract the file and launch the QuickPwn 2.2 application. Then follow the prompt and connect your iPhone to your computer via the USB cable. When the blue arrow button lights up, click it.

QuickPwn is smart enough to detect the firmware ipsw file you downloaded via iTunes (something like C:\Documents and Settings\coderetard\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates\ on Windows XP). If it can’t find it for whatever reason, download the 2.2 restore firmware ipsw file for 3G iPhone1,2_2.2_5G77_Restore.ipsw directly from Apple’s servers. Then browse to the or restore firmware ipsw file you downloaded. After the green checkmark appears, click the blue arrow button.

On the next page, make sure you select the “Cydia” checkbox. You can check “Installer” and replace logo as desired. Click the arrow button after making your selections.

Now get ready to rumble…

READ THIS STEP THROUGH COMPLETELY FIRST, lest you be caught off guard: Click on the Blue arrow button which will bring up a screen with some instructions (below). Follow them exactly to a tee. Just to prepare, here are the directions: 1) Hold Home for 5 seconds, 2) Hold Home and Power together for 10 seconds, 3) Release Power but continue to hold Home for 30 seconds. Throughout the process these three steps, you DO NOT LET GO OF THE HOME BUTTON until after the third step. I didn’t have to hold it anymore after it counted down to 21 seconds left.

Then sit back and relax while QuickPwn does all the hard work for you, you’ll see some activity on your iPhone screen and hear your computer beep a few times, but when it restarts finally and says it’s waiting for activation, it’s ready to use. Now you can close QuickPwn.

It’s now a good time to set up your wireless network settings on your iPhone 3G so you will be able to connect to the software repositories in Cydia.

Now Launch the Cydia app, which will reorganize then restart. You’ll need to launch it again afterwards.

When prompted at the “Who Are You” screen, just choose the first option “User (Graphical Only).”

Click on the Manage tab on the bottom menu bar. In the Manage tab, click on the Sources button in the middle. You will need to add the source to the yellowsn0w repo to utilize the soft unlock.

Click on “Edit” on the top right, then “Add” on the top left. In the URL, type: http://apt9.yellowsn0w.com/ as shown below. When you are done click “Done” and then “Browser.”

Now click on the “Search” tab and type “yellowsn0w” and install the app “yellowsn0w.”

For US T-Mobile users, you will need to disable the “Enable 3G” setting in your network settings.

Now restart your iPhone 3G with your SIM card inserted. Wait for the slide to unlock screen and then wait 15 seconds more. If you don’t see the SIM card working, reinsert the SIM and wait another 10 seconds. Now try and make some calls with your newly unlocked iPhone 3G!

For T-Mobile users, continue reading if you have problems:

Download and install BossPrefs and via Cydia

Disable all functions with BossPrefs (don’t worry if you can’t disable EDGE)

Reboot your Phone with BossPrefs (not the normal manual way – this is important!)

Wait a minute and a half when you see the slick to unlock screen

Take out your T-Mobile SIM card and insert it again

Wait for 10 seconds

Go to Settings and turn on Airplane mode, then turn it off again

Take out your T-Mobile SIM card and put in any AT&T SIM card and wait for a minute. Ignore the “Waiting to activate” prompt

Now take out the AT&T SIM card and put in your T-Mobile SIM card again

After a moment you will see the activation succeeded prompt. Now you should be able to pick up a T-Mobile signal

Yahoo co-founder Jerry Yang is stepping down after a rocky tenure as chief executive of the Internet company. Among, the original Silicon Valley dotcom billionaires, Yang was named CEO in June 2007 after Terry Semel exit.

As CEO, Yang had the task to turn around the company’s dwindling fortunes. However, the rejection of the Microsoft offer and a failed advertising partnership with Google marred his brief tenure. Here’s tracing the rise and fall of Yang.

The company has been suffering from dropping share prices. However the news of Yang’s resignation caused shares to soar. Yang, co-founder of Yahoo!, will revert back to his previous role, focusing on development. He also will remain on the board.

In my opinion he did the right thing for open source and free software. Microsoft would not like to give anything for free. If you remember Hotmail was planning to make Hotmail paid when our beloved gmail came in and saved our souls. Had I been in Yang’s shoes, I would have done the same. Google was a better option at that time (before recession).

I think, Microsoft is not the answer, it is the question, NO is the answer

New Collaboration Combines the Flexibility, Reliability and Productivity of PHP Technology with the Powerful User Experience of Adobe Flex and Flash Technology

Zend/PHP Conference and Expo, SANTA CLARA, Calif. — September 16, 2008 — Zend Technologies today announced a collaboration with Adobe Systems Incorporated to bring together the flexibility, productivity and enterprise reliability of Zend’s PHP technologies with the user experience benefits of Adobe Flex. The two companies will deliver technologies, content and services to make it easy for enterprise developers to build rich Internet applications (RIAs) using Flex on the client and PHP on the server. These RIAs are easier to use, speed real-time decision-making and increase employee productivity.

A key deliverable of this collaboration is the integration of Action Message Format (AMF) support into Zend Framework. AMF is an open, binary, high-speed format enabling Adobe® Flash® Player and Flex-based client applications to easily and rapidly exchange rich media and other data with servers. Flex is a highly productive, free open source framework for building and maintaining expressive web applications that deploy consistently across all major browsers and operating systems using Adobe® Flash® Player and to the desktop via Adobe® AIR™. Zend Framework is an open source PHP application framework best known for its support for flexible, efficient creation of web applications. AMF support in Zend Framework delivers optimized communication between server-side Zend Framework components and client-side Adobe Flex components. Now PHP developers will be able to leverage the fast, reliable transfer of data between the server and client tiers of their web applications. More information about AMF support is available at http://framework.zend.com and http://developer.adobe.com/flex/

In addition, Zend and Adobe plan to optimize the experience for developers using their respective development environments. Zend Studio and Adobe® Flex® Builder™, both built on the open source Eclipse platform, provide robust coding, debugging, and testing tools for professional developers. Today, the two environments enable greater productivity, simplified deployment and end-to-end debugging of applications. Moving forward, Zend and Adobe plan to identify and implement cross-product integration points that optimize developer workflow and reduce development time.

“Since bringing Flex to market, we’ve seen strong uptake among PHP developers, and we’re pleased to be collaborating with Zend and the PHP community to deliver deeper integration and increased productivity,” said David Wadhwani, General Manager, Platform Business Unit at Adobe. “The collaboration with Zend furthers Adobe’s commitment to open technology initiatives. Together, we will enable developers using Flex and Zend Framework to rapidly deliver highly engaging applications to both the browser and the desktop.”

“Zend’s mission is to enable companies investing in PHP technology to deliver world-class experiences using internet-standard technologies,” said Andi Gutmans, chief technical officer and co-founder of Zend. “By working more closely with Adobe, we believe our customers will be more equipped to deliver the performance, reliability, and engaging user experience that will differentiate their products and services.”

Customers Improve Enterprise Applications With Open Source Flex, Zend Framework, and PHP

Automotive Computer Services, Inc. (ACS) provides solutions that manage data needs for automotive dealerships throughout the United States:

“By moving our dealer management system from a desktop application to a web based service, we are able to drastically cut the costs of real-time data integration, while expanding our feature set and ability to integrate third party providers,” said John Coggeshall, chief technical officer at ACS. “With this radical change to a more centralized web application for our customers, desktop-like user experience and responsiveness is a key factor for success. The AMF and Flex integration into Zend Framework enables us to more cost-effectively meet these requirements by dramatically reducing latency of service requests, giving our customers the highly responsive application they demand and the rich user experience we expect.”

Stream Energy delivers multiple energy commodities like electricity and natural gas to over 300,000 customers throughout Texas and Georgia and they are rapidly expanding into other states:

“Our need to engage and provide relevant real-time information to our customers continually accelerates in the fast-moving deregulated consumer energy markets. Our web-based customer portal provides customer account information on our services and drives revenue collections that now number over $1.2 Billion dollars over the four year life of these systems,” said Jason Forgey, Senior Director of Information Technology at Dallas-based Stream Energy. “We built our new system with PHP middleware and an API gateway using web services with an Adobe Flex/Flash front-end and an Oracle database back-end, all using Zend Solutions. The time-to-market and performance of PHP is one reason we have chosen to build with a Zend Solution that includes Zend Platform application server to manage our applications and queue up asynchronous jobs when under load, Zend Core managed PHP environment, Zend Studio in conjunction with Adobe Flex Builder for our development environment, and a Zend Framework and Adobe Flex based application portal.”

Adobe and Zend will undertake multiple initiatives to deliver product interoperability and integration, and define best practices for customers. The two companies have created dedicated areas within their respective developer portals where they will deliver a series of articles, white papers, and online seminars educating developers on best practices for delivering enterprise-ready solutions using PHP, Zend Framework, and Zend Platform, together with Adobe Flex, Adobe Flash Player, and Adobe AIR. Future product integration plans and technical documentation will be made available there.
No video calling,

No AD2P on the Bluetooth,

CAN’T share ANY (mp3, images, videos….) files via bluetooth,

Can’t use as a wireless modem, (you pay ridiculous data charges to activate internet on your phone , but cannot connect it to your PC and browse when you are at home)

No copy and paste,(cannot copy a part of a…. say…. email & send it….have to type it out yourself)

No 3.2 or 5 megapixel camera ,(the 2MP camera it carries is worst camera i’ve ever seen….. photos look like they have come out of a VGA camera)

No video recording with camera,

No front camera,

No Flash support.

No JAVA support

No physical keyboard (BELIEVE me! this alone is a dealbreaker…touch keyboard as good as it looks…once you use it then only you come to know about the importance of having a hard keypad)

No 3G network yet in India..So why pay for expensive 3G phone if you can’t use its 3G services … so, for India, iPhone 2.0 is no better than its first version.

No removable battery. (You cannot change battery. Have to send it to apple outlet.. Come on now!!!!…This is not an iPod . Its a bloody phone. You cannot live without phone for 2-3 days)

No hap tic feedback

Cannot send MMS

Can’t use as external storage device (16 GB of utter waste..next time you go to your friend’s house & find some interesting songs, movies , etc…Sorry you cannot connect your ’16 GB’ phone and share it!!!! Apple apparently has a solution.. ” BUY MUSIC & MOVIES FROM iTUNES STORE “….. Give me a break … will you ??

No FM radio,

Can’t use your mp3 files as ringtones,(This is heights man!!!)

Cannot insert any other SIM card.

Completely tied to iTunes… Connect to your friend’s iTunes & you risk erasing everything on your phone.

In my opinion, we Indians are used to these features. Most of our phones already have these features and it very hard to do with out them. Imagine paying around INR 35,000 for a phone with which you cannot transfer files via bluetooth. What age is this …STONE AGE??? Some features may be activated by jailbreak.. but why the hell should you risk losing your warranty after paying so much. Forget Microsoft, I think Apple is a bloody control freak. Dont surrender your freedom to it.

It’s good for American market (who have no idea what mobile freedom/choice is) which is in stone age compared to asian/european markets. When they want to buy a phone, they have to go to network operators and buy only those phones that are available on that network. & stick to that company till their contract expires. You want to change carriers? Not before paying damages, & buying another phone on the other network again.

On the contrary, we in India have so much freedom. We go to handset shops & buy which ever phone we like. Then go to carriers…checkout the plans… buy desired SIM.. and if we don’t like the plan or rival carrier came up with a better plan ???? EASY.. just remove & replace the SIM. Apple are trying to IMPOSE THEIR MODEL ON US riding on the hype iPhone has created in the US (yes it was a flop in Europe .thats why Apple never talks about its sales in Europe).

Dont fall for the subsidized price of iPhone… CHECKOUT THE DATA PLAN ATTACHED TO ITS SIM..they will recover the cost through ridiculous data plans. Its around 30 p for 50 kb. You monthly bill may come to around INR 3500 (ATLEAST AMERICANS PAY THAT MUCH)

Let me clear one thing though.. iPhone is the best looking phone (its touch interface is nothing like you have ever seen ), best browsing experience out there no doubt …. ( others are fast catching up..Check out the Android demo at Google IO 2008)…. BUT AFTER A FEW DAYS IT ALL COMES DOWN TO FUNCTIONALITY…

Those of who buy it… You will be most happy for atmost a week… then, YOU MAY START REGRETTING IT

PS: This is what David Chartier had to say… Apple snoozes, researcher discloses risky iPhone UI flaws

Another search feature is set to move out of Google Lab and go mainstream. The feature, called Google Suggest automatically recommends options for the rest of your search term as you type based on the most popular searches, will go live next week.

According to Jennifer Liu, Product Manager with Google, “Over the next week we’ll be rolling this out so that more and more of you will start seeing a list of query suggestions when you start typing into the search box.”

According to the blog, Google Suggest will help users in the following ways:

Help formulate queries: Instead of just typing [hotels in Washington] — did you want [hotels in Washington dc] or [hotels in Washington state]? Don’t remember that song title or person’s name? Let Google help you search (and yes, I ended up choosing “From This Moment” as our wedding song).

Reduce spelling errors: Since suggestions are spell-corrected using the same “Did you mean?” feature that offers alternative spellings for your query after you search, misspellings and typos can be corrected ahead of time. Instead of wasting your time with a misspelled query like [new yrok times] or [tomorow never dies], search the first time with the correctly-spelled query.

Saves keystrokes: Who wants to spend their time typing [San Francisco chronicle] when you can just type in San F…” and choose the suggestion right away?

Scrabulous has been exterminated from Facebook once and for all, and not just in the <st1 :country-region w:st="on">U.S.A.</st1> and <st1 :country-region w:st="on">Canada</st1> but in the <st1 :country-region w:st="on">U.K.</st1> and <st1 :place w:st="on"></st1><st1 :country-region w:st="on">Australia</st1> as well.

Mattel Inc., which owns the rights to the Scrabulous IP outside the <st1 :country-region w:st="on"></st1><st1 :place w:st="on">United States</st1>, strongly continued Hasbo’s last month’s initiative and supported them with a new takedown notice. The latter owns the rights to the IP in the <st1 :place w:st="on"></st1><st1 :country-region w:st="on">U.S.</st1> The company blocked access for <st1 :place w:st="on"></st1><st1 :country-region w:st="on">U.S.</st1> and Canadian users in July after Hasbro sued Scrabulous creators Rajat Agarwalla and Jayant Agarwalla.

Hasbro said that the names “Scrabble” and “Scrabulous” are “confusingly similar.” Moreover they complained about the rules of the game which are “not really different.” The traditional board game, Scrabble, and the online game, Scrabulous were redundantly alike.

The Indian brothers’ solution to this problem was Wordscraper which didn’t really do the trick, as circular tiles, the opportunity to earn quadruple points, and the ability to choose where extra points can be earned were among the petty differences between the so called new version and the old one that resembled the original Scrabble.<o :p></o>

Nevertheless due to the fact that Mattel’s lawsuit in India against the two developers is still going on Facebook will allow users in the country to access it until a final court decision will be filed.

“It is astonishing that Facebook, which claims to be a fair and neutral party, took this step even though they were fully aware of the circumstances under which the Mattel letter was sent to them,” said Rajat one of the two brothers.
